| About Us |
The following piece was written by life long resident, graduate, and current teacher...Mr. Joseph Durgin:
From my perspective as a 40 year veteran classroom teacher and coach and from someone who has lived through centralization, endless expansions, numerous state wide educational realignments, reconfigurations and regents changes the Indian River School District is a conduit for the future. It is a family affair where education encompasses not just the students attending Indian River but also all the moms, dads, brothers, sisters, grandparents and friends of our students.
Our school district is made up of several diverse and unique communities that are spread out over Northern Jefferson County including the towns and villages of Antwerp, Evans Mills, Calcium, Philadelphia, Theresa, Oxbow and Fort Drum, which is the home of the 10th Mountain Division.
Indian River’s cultural diversity provides our district’s students with the opportunity to enjoy the knowledge and experience the perspectives and the feelings of students from all over the world.
We are not just a school. Our administrators, teachers, secretaries, custodians, coaches, advisors, counselors, food service personnel and bus drivers are focused on what is best for our young ladies and gentlemen who will leave with an education far beyond the basics of what New York State requires.
Our graduates will leave Indian River having successfully completed academic expectations, but more importantly will leave here with some intangibles which are equally important, like the ability to take an active part in helping others, telling the truth, being positive role-models, having a strong work ethic, good manners, and a respectfulness for the economic challenges our great country faces.
Indian River School District will prepare our students for whatever the future may bring. It has always been that way and will continue to be one of the very best school districts in the state.
