I am pleased to inform you that the Board of Education recently approved a $60,359,557 budget as we move forward into the 2009-10 school year.  This sound budget in difficult financial times is proposed based on a combination of multi-year strategic planning and excellent fiscal discipline, resulting in the District retaining a healthy fund balance. 

We must remain cognizant of the growth facing the District in the next several years and our need to be prepared for that growth.  In spite of the reality of the proposed State aid reductions, we believe that we have crafted a budget that provides for the quality of education you have come to expect at Indian River.

The key point is this -  on the whole, the immediate impact on the District of any reductions in State aid will be cushioned by the fund balance.  The difficulties will be felt as we move forward into future budget development.  As we developed our current budget, we positioned the District well to begin rebuilding from the effects of the last fiscal crisis.  As we move forward, we will continue to carefully review and analyze any plans prior to proceeding and we will continue to exercise fiscal restraint as we look to the future.

I want to inform you that the District as a whole operates and makes decisions based on the District's Strategic Plan (see related file below).  This document outlines the District vision, mission, core values and protocols, as well as five key goal areas that span organizational areas of the District.  I encourage you to refer to the District Strategic Plan to glean more information about our core values and operational principles.
