Leadership Changes at Indian River

The Indian River Central School District is pleased to announce the following district and school administrative leadership changes for the 2018-19 school year (beginning July 1, 2018):


Superintendent Mary Anne DobmeierMrs. Mary Anne Dobmeier assumes the position of Superintendent of Schools.  Mrs. Dobmeier has been an administrator with the District for 23 years, serving as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction for 14 years and Supervisor of Federal Programs for nine years.  She is a former middle school principal and has a background and expertise in special education and school counseling. Mrs. Dobmeier stated: “I am honored and excited to be your next Superintendent. I am proud to serve at one of the finest schools in the north country and to continue the tradition of excellence that is Indian River.”


Assistant Superintendent Troy DeckerMr. Troy Decker assumes the position of Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.  Mr. Decker has been the High School principal for the past 12 years and has been with the District for 18 years as an administrator and teacher.  Quote: “The students, staff, and overall Indian River school community are truly remarkable… and our trajectory shows that the best is yet to come.  I am humbled to be part of such an amazing team of educators and look forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead. We are… IR!”


IRHS Principal Brian MooreMr. Brian Moore assumes the position of High School principal.  Mr. Moore has been the principal of the Indian River Intermediate School for the past 6 years and has been with the district for 19 years.  Previously, he was the assistant principal at the Intermediate School, a dean of students at Evans Mills Primary School, and was a school counselor at the Middle School for 10 years.  He has also supported the athletics department, serving as a coach for several sports at many different levels. Quote: “Wow, what thrilling times these are here at Indian River! I am excited for the opportunity to serve as principal of our high school.  I look forward to working with our school and community building upon the strong foundation of success at Indian River.”


IRIS Principal Sarah MattesonMrs. Sarah Matteson joins the faculty and staff at the Intermediate School as principal.  Mrs. Matteson has been a math instructional coach and a math teacher at the middle and high school level for 19 years.  In addition to her teacher leader position as math instructional coach, Mrs. Matteson has also been the math department chair, working with math teachers in grades 6-12 for five years.  Quote: “I am excited about this opportunity to grow and learn. I look forward to becoming part of the IRIS family and build upon the great work that has already been accomplished.”


The team of leaders have been engaged in transition activities to their new positions during the latter half of this school year, with the goal of hitting the ground running in order to provide the highest level of leadership skills required in their respective positions to the students, families, staff and community at large.  


The Indian River Central School District encompasses 284 square miles (including Federal property) in northern Jefferson and southern St. Lawrence County in New York. The vision of the District is as follows: In providing a comprehensive educational program, IRCSD will advance, serve, and contribute to the growth and wellness of our communities. Indian River prides itself in offering a robust, well rounded UPK-12th-grade educational program to approximately 4000 students. Indian River has made great strides in provision of STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts Mathematics) instruction to students so as to ensure that they are well prepared for future careers and higher education.

Our district is governed by a nine-member Board of Education through the superintendent of schools, Mary Anne Dobmeier. The goal of our district is to provide each of our students with the resources and a climate that will both stimulate and prepare them to communicate effectively, develop social skills, become successful citizens, and instill the quest for knowledge. The entire educational program is geared toward developing productive, successful citizens through a broad range of stimulating activities and programs.

Free Meals for Students at Philadelphia and Theresa Primary Schools!

The Indian River Central School District is pleased to announce that all students at Philadelphia and Theresa Primary Schools will be served free meals at no charge for the 2018-19 school year, through the Community Eligibility Provision of the Healthy Hunger-Free Schools Act and the National School Lunch Act. All students are allowed to be served free breakfast and lunch each day at school. Philadelphia and Theresa Primary Schools are the only schools in the District that are eligible for this due to the minimum number of students who were identified for free meals during the previous school year. The District is excited to be able to offer this to our students at Philly and Theresa!

Indian River FFA members honored at 93rd NYS FFA Convention in Rochester

Members of the Indian River FFA recently traveled to Rochester, NY for the 93rd New York State FFA Convention held on May 17-19th. The Ag Mechanics team placed 3rd in the State. Jared McConnell, Ryan Gleisner, Ethan Ruttan, and Nolan Drake were on the state 3rd placing team, while individually, Ethan Ruttan placed 6th and Ryan Gleisner 9th. The Food Science and Technology Team also placed 3rd with Erika Elcsisin, Emily Trudeau, Jillian Neaves and Taylor Scheer on the team. Individually, Jillian Neaves placed 3rd and Erika Elcsisin placed 9th. Indian River Freshman Connor Leeder entered maple syrup that he personally produced in the NYS Schoolyard Maple Contest and received 8th place honors. The convention concluded with Mr. Decker, Principal at Indian River High School, being recognized for his longstanding support of the Indian River FFA and Agriculture program by receiving his Honorary Empire Degree from the State FFA Association.

2018-2019 Universal Pre-Kindergarten Program Application now available!

If your child resides in the Indian River Central School District and will be 4 years of age on or before December 1, 2018, he or she is eligible to participate in our Universal Pre-Kindergarten program at Calcium, Evans Mills, and Philadelphia Primary. Submit your application by April 20, 2018 to be included in the first placement lottery.
