April 1, 2020 IRCSD COVID-19 Update: A Message from Superintendent Dobmeier

Greetings IRCSD Students and Parents! Wow! We’ve seen some amazing examples of high-tech and low tech teaching and learning, and you are doing a great job learning from home! Thank you so much for engaging with some fun, educational, enrichment and skill-maintenance type activities over the past weeks. We also appreciate that you are staying in touch with your teachers and each other via email, phone, video, and even traditional mail. Our Warrior Team needs to stay connected during these difficult times.

Here are several quick updates regarding school programming:

  • 3rd quarter report cards will not be issued at this time. We will combine all schoolwork accomplished through March 13th with future offerings to calculate grades at a later date in a fair, equitable manner. The specifics will depend on the length of closure, so more guidance may be issued at a later date.
  • Governor Cuomo extended state-wide school closures until Wednesday, April 15th. Though an extension of the school closure order by the Governor is certainly possible, please plan on returning to school on Wednesday, April 15th
  • Executive Order 202.11 also effectively cancels all school vacation time, so the scheduled Spring Break will not be held this year. IRCSD will continue food distribution throughout the period of closure

Thank you for your continued understanding and flexibility, and most importantly, thank you for helping keep everyone safe by practicing good hygiene and social distancing. We miss you all, and look forward to being back together... soon!

Mrs. Dobmeier IRCSD Superintendent

UPDATE: To assist with many of the questions we have been receiving, NY Schools are required to follow the direction of the NY Education Department and the Governor. As has been shared in the media, NY has elected to extend school closures in two-week increments. Again, an extension beyond 4/15 is expected, but has not yet been announced formally. We will keep our community informed of any and all changes. We share your concerns about a return to school that occurs too early, and will help plan for this return when more is known. Thank you for understanding!
