School Budget and School Board Candidate Absentee Ballot Vote for 2020-2021

This is Mrs. Dobmeier, Superintendent of Schools, with an important update regarding our 2020-2021 school budget and school board candidate voting process.  As indicated in Governor Cuomo’s executive order 202.26, voting on the school district budget and school board candidates will be by absentee ballot only.  The District, following guidance from our legal counsel, is compiling and sending out at least one absentee ballot to every household in the Indian River Central School District. The requirements for qualified voters in the District are as follows: individuals must be 18 years of age, a United States citizen and have resided in the district for at least 30 days prior to the deadline date of the vote (June 9th).

If you require additional absentee ballots for other qualified voters in your household, please contact the District Clerk, Cheryl McCormick by phone at 315-642-3441 or email at cherylmccormick@ircsd.org as soon as possible.  The absentee ballots must be returned to the District Office by Tuesday, June 9th, by 5:00 PM.  Ballots received after this date and time will not be counted. An addressed, stamped envelope is included with the absentee ballot for you to return your ballot to the District Office. Please read and follow the instructions for submitting an absentee ballot, included with the mailing so that your vote counts.  The District, using Board of Education approved election officials and following guidance of legal counsel, will count and report the results of the absentee balloting process as soon as practical following the deadline.

On May 19th, the Board of Education approved a 2020-2021 budget in the amount of $89,844,680.  This budget consists of a decrease of less than one percentage point when using a normalized, year over year comparison.

When voting using your absentee ballot, you will be asked to vote on this budget amount, along with the election of two school board candidates: William Backus and Robin Johnson, both of whom are running for five year terms for separate seats.

Here are some key dates for you to know as we go through this process together:

  • Absentee ballots will be mailed out to households on or about May 22nd

  • Thursday, May 28th will be the budget hearing conducted remotely and live streamed via the District’s Facebook page;  please see the District’s website and Facebook page for information and access to the budget hearing

  • Absentee ballots along with the qualified voter affidavit insert must be returned in the stamped, addressed envelope to the district clerk by 5:00 PM on June 9th

Again, the District encourages you to return your absentee ballot promptly so that your vote will be counted.

Thank you for all you do to support our school and community. If you have any questions, please contact the District Office at 315-642-3441.
