November 29, 2020 IRCSD COVID-19 Update: A Message from Superintendent DobmeierDear Parents, Guardians, Faculty, and Staff,

Though different this year, the Thanksgiving holiday has been a wonderful opportunity to reflect on some of the most important aspects of our lives - our families, our health, and most importantly, our children. With IRCSD’s return to school tomorrow, I want to add my heartfelt gratitude to our students, staff, and to you, our parents/guardians. Your support, compassion, and kindness have gone a long way for all of us who partner with you to provide outstanding educational experiences for our students during such extraordinary circumstances.

You and your child(ren) have done what is needed and we commend you for your ongoing efforts and support. It is important to recognize that schools have had remarkable success and are not the cause or reason for community spread. Schools have proven to be safe places with the foundational and critical practices of:
  • Mask wearing - strongly encouraged at all times, but strictly required anytime social distancing cannot be maintained
  • Social distancing - at least six feet (12 for some activities), and more if space allows
  • Hand hygiene - Frequent washing of hands with soap and water (or hand sanitizer if a sink is not available) throughout the day, and
  • Routine cleaning/disinfecting - frequent cleaning and disinfecting of all surfaces, but especially those areas or items considered to be high-contact

IRCSD’s COVID-related practices have been highly successful and have served as a model for others to follow. Though COVID-19 has been brought TO our schools, our combined work has prevented the virus from spreading THROUGH our schools. We pledge to continue to reinforce these protocols in school and ask that you do the same. Our partnership is critical to the health of our students, staff, and community.

All of us can play a part in keeping our region and our schools open, but we must work together and we must do it today! As we return to school this week and progress through the holiday season, please remember to follow the CDC and Department of Health guidance for travel (advisory details HERE), limit the size and scope of our social gatherings, and continue to reinforce the protocols listed above. It is also vital that students and staff continue to perform self/family health screenings daily. Anyone presenting with any virus symptoms must remain home and contact a medical provider. Thank you for your assistance with this vital component of our health and safety practices.

Of note, IRCSD is currently exploring options with local providers and the NY Department of Health to serve as a possible COVID test site for students and staff. While nothing is confirmed (yet), this status would allow for greater access to testing in the event our region is designated as a Yellow or Orange area. This may allow IRCSD to remain fully open by demonstrating safe levels of virus exposure through voluntary testing of at least 20% of our students and staff. More information will (hopefully) be shared in the coming days.

We will welcome our A Cohort students back in-person to our schools tomorrow (with the exception of IRIS - see the message from earlier today) and look forward to seeing our Z Cohort later in the week. As we work through the coming weeks, please remember:

Masks + Distance + Clean Hands + Positive Partnerships = OPEN SCHOOLS (and an OPEN community!).

Please stay safe, stay healthy, and remain #WarriorStrong!
