IRCSD BOE Meeting 10/9/2025

Distraction-Free Schools

The Indian River Central School District, like all other districts across New York State, is actively implementing a new “bell-to-bell” student personal electronic device policy supporting a distraction-free learning environment aligned with New York State Education Law Section 2803. This new state mandate restricts the student use of personal internet-enabled devices, such as smartphones and smart watches, during the school day across all grade levels. This initiative is designed to foster a more engaged atmosphere truly conducive to academic growth.

Please visit our Distraction-Free Schools website for more information about IRCSD's implementation of this important initiative.

Indian River Thespian Troupe Fall Production: Radium Girls

    WHAT: The Radium Girls

    WHEN: October 16 - 17, 2025 at 7PM, October 18, 2025 at 2:00PM and 7:00PM

WHERE: Indian River High School Black Box Theatre

    TICKETS: Donation at the door

For more information, contact Director: Kristie Farr at kristiefarr@ircsd.org or (315) 323-2390

"In the 1920s, it was the height of fashion. Glow-in-the-dark watches! A miracle element called Radium made the dials shine, and young women, known as the 'Radium Girls,' painted those tiny numbers with a technique called 'lip-pointing,' putting a glow on everything they touched..."

But that glow came at a terrible cost. They were told the paint was harmless. They were lied to.

Introducing D.W. Gregory's powerful drama, The Radium Girls.

This is the gripping, true-life story of Grace Fryer and her co-workers—dial painters who found themselves fighting for their lives, and for justice, against the powerful U.S. Radium Corporation.

    You will witness:

    • The devastating human cost of corporate greed.

    • The courageous fight for workers' rights in a world that prioritized profit over people.

    • The birth of modern labor safety and the very first workers' compensation cases.

More than a historical account, The Radium Girls is a fast-paced, theatrical ensemble piece that resonates today, asking: What is the price of silence? And what will you risk to stand up for the truth?

"Don't let their story fade into the darkness. See The Radium Girls at Indian River High School October 16 - 18, 2025. Witness the light they cast on an enduring fight for justice."

All performances will be ASL Shadow Interpreted for the Deaf Community.

    Tickets: Donation Only!

Accessibility: Due to sightlines, Deaf audience members are encouraged to reserve seating ASAP by emailing Kristie Farr @ kristiefarr@ircsd.org.

Produced by special arrangement with THE DRAMATIC PUBLISHING COMPANY of Woodstock, Illinois.
