Distraction-Free Schools

The Indian River Central School District, like all other districts across New York State, is actively implementing a new “bell-to-bell” student personal electronic device policy supporting a distraction-free learning environment aligned with New York State Education Law Section 2803. This new state mandate restricts the student use of personal internet-enabled devices, such as smartphones and smart watches, during the school day across all grade levels. This initiative is designed to foster a more engaged atmosphere truly conducive to academic growth.

Please visit our Distraction-Free Schools website for more information about IRCSD's implementation of this important initiative.

Opportunity for Students and Teachers: Civil Air Patrol Open House

Please consider joining us at the Civil Air Patrol, Fort Drum Composite Squadron, Open House this coming Saturday, September 6, 2025 from 11:00AM to 2:00PM at Watertown International Airport.  Please see the attached flyer for the Open House for more information.

The Civil Air Patrol provides an opportunity for young people to learn about and participate in Aircraft Flight, Leadership, Aerospace Education, Search and Rescue, Military Customs and Courtesies, Volunteer Service, and Character Development.  Young people ages 12 through 17 may join the Civil Air Patrol as Cadets and then remain as Cadets until they reach the age of 21.

We also have a membership category for teachers, the Aerospace Education Member, that provides educational resources and the potential for participating in an orientation flight in one of our aircraft.

Please note, though the Civil Air Patrol is the US Air Force Auxiliary, our mission is not military recruiting.  Participation in the Civil Air Patrol does not obligate anyone to join the military, nor is there pressure to do so.  However, participation in Civil Air Patrol may provide advantages to those who are considering a military career.  The primary mission of the Cadet Program is to grow leaders, educate about aerospace, and make good citizens for the community.  The attached CAP Fact Sheet 2024 provides additional information about the Civil Air Patrol and our Cadet Programs.

Additional information is available at the Civil Air Patrol National Web Site: https://www.gocivilairpatrol.com/

You can see what other New York Cadets and Adult members are up to by visiting our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ny406cap

    Welcome Back, IRCSD!

Indian River Central School District faculty and staff were back on campus this week! Our opening Superintendent's Day featured updates from our leadership team and community partners, and a performance by keynote speaker Blake Fly, who is on a mission to spread appreciation, gratitude, and fun in unexpected ways that help people build the kinds of relationships that fuel growth and change lives. The rest of the week included faculty gatherings, professional development sessions, open houses, and time for teachers to prepare their rooms to welcome our students back to school.

As a reminder, our schools will be closed from August 29th-September 1st for Labor Day Weekend, and the first day of school for students for the 2025-26 school year is Tuesday, September 2nd, 2025.  We hope you have a relaxing and reinvigorating weekend before the new school year begins.

This year we look forward to celebrating the small moments that make a big impact. We are so excited to welcome our students back to campus on Tuesday! #WeAreIR!

Indian River Central School District Welcomes New Evans Mills Primary School Principal

The Indian River Central School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Vicki McCullouch as the new principal of Evans Mills Primary School.

A proud graduate of Indian River Central School District, Class of 2002, McCullouch brings both deep roots and a wealth of experience to her new role. She has been part of the Indian River community for 17 years, serving as a middle and high school social studies teacher, social studies department head, K-12 academic coach for social studies, Dean of Students at Evans Mills Primary, and most recently, Assistant Principal at EMPS.

Her ties to the district extend beyond her career. McCullouch’s daughter is a fourth-generation Indian River student, making her commitment to the district personal as well as professional.

“My experiences as a student, parent and staff member in our Indian River community have given me a unique perspective on our school,” said McCullouch. “I believe wholeheartedly that students in our district receive a world-class education, and I am both proud and thankful to be part of the leadership team.”

Superintendent Troy Decker praised McCullouch’s unwavering dedication to the district. “Her long-standing commitment and passion for education continue to make a profound impact throughout IRCSD,” he said. “We are incredibly excited for the students, staff and entire Evans Mills school community!"

The district looks forward to McCullouch’s new role as she builds upon the strong foundation at Evans Mills Primary School and guides students toward continued academic success.
